Taking your driving test can be a pretty stressful experience. After all, you are being examined. The truth is, not every learner passes on the first go, and that's ok. Here are 5 useful tips to help get you through your 40minutes of judgment!
1. TAKE A DEEP BREATH!
Under test conditions, you may suddenly find your feet have lost their stability while you grip the wheel so hard your hands no longer feel like they belong to your body. Although this is a completely natural reaction, it isn't going to do you any favours. Take a deep breath and remember- you've obviously made the decision to take the test feeling somewhat confident that you can do this! Believe that you can and pack up the nerve, confidence is key to success!
2. STAY ON THE LOOKOUT- EYES ON THE MIRRORS!
One of the most common reasons why people fail is due to lack of observation. Check your mirrors at every opportunity. Your examiner will be looking out to see if you're processing visual information and you need to demonstrate that you're doing so. Check your mirrors, be aware of whats behind you and next to you, check them before turning left or right, check them when changing lanes. ..Mirrors are your extended vision, use them like a pro!
3. INDICATE LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW
This one is easily missed on the day. Alongside your mirror checks, be sure to let everyone know where you intend to go!
4. WATCH OUT FOR ROAD SIGNS
The chances are, you've already driven this way before. But don't be fooled! You may know the route but under pressure, it's easy to forget the speed limits, especially on side streets! Keep an eye out as you drive!
5. DON'T PANIC!
Things may go wrong, and that's ok because you're only human! If you make a mistake, it's not the end of the world. Keep your cool, chin up and recover. Making a mistake doesn't have to mean you've failed so pick up your confidence and keep going!
